The history of our laboratory

Ever since our dental laboratory was established in 1959, we have remained true to our professional values:
Quality – close cooperation – innovation.

Building in Falkenstrasse
Dentallabor Mehlitz was established in 1959. In 1972, the rapidly expanding company moved into newly built premises (which have since been extended) in Falkenstrasse.
  • 1959: Dentallabor Mehlitz is established in central Lübeck by Master Dental Technician Günther Mehlitz.
  • 1972: Increase to the laboratory’s capacity: the dental laboratory moves into newly built premises in Falkenstrasse.
  • 1981: Martina Mehlitz starts her Dental Technician training. 1985-1995: Further training in Marburg und Lüneburg. 1999: Master Dental Technician examination.
  • 1995: Dentallabor Mehlitz becomes Mehlitz Dental-Labor GmbH.
  • 1995: Martina Mehlitz-Krause takes over as Director of the company.
  • 2004: Udo Ridder, Master Dental Technician, joins the company – he becomes joint proprietor and second Director on 01 Jan 2005.
  • 2005: Mehlitz Dental-Labor GmbH becomes Mehlitz & Ridder Dentaltechnik GmbH & Co. KG.

Some key German legislative landmarks affecting Dental Technicians and laboratories

  • 1930: The profession of self-employed Dental Technician is regulated.
  • 1952: Official approbation becomes a legal requirement for all those practicing dentistry.
  • 1953: The Master’s qualification becomes a prerequisite for self-employment as a Dental Technician.
  • 1976: Laws governing medical products are changed. All laboratories are now under obligation to disclose the materials used in dental prostheses.
